GIMP V3 RC1 Arrives
GIMP posted a release candidate, and it works better than I expected. I've tried GIMP time and again over the years, and it has transitioned quite a lot. It was a buggy mess and was very unstable, and nigh unusable.
Now, things have changed. On Windows 11, Ubuntu, and PopOS Cosmic / Gnome (Wayland) it performs nicely. It's stable, fast, and I was quickly able to get a handle on the software and make the image featured for this post in about an hour of tinkering.
While I love Affinity Designer, after coming from Photoshop, and before that Fireworks or even MS Paint, I can say that GIMP has come a long way and seems geared toward offering the exact tools we as artists and designers need.
You get a lot, for 0 dollars. Try it out for yourself.
